GFSN National League 2006/07
Leftfooters - Titans
2nd December 2006
Clapham Common

Regents Park was being used to film an episode of Telletubbies so a pitch was booked on Clapham Common for this Leftfooters home game. I had good memories of this ground as I had played in goal for Brighton and didn't have a save to make. I hade a feeling it was going to be very different today. Making our way to South London for this home game was too much for some of the Leftfooters. A few of them were late and some didn't appear at all! We made our way to the pitch only to find out that 1) some straight boy teams had nicked our pitch and 2) the pitch we had been left made the no man's land at the Battle of the Somme look like the Emirates!! What a quagmire, made all the better by Ron saying he would have abandoned the match if it was an important one!! We eventually kick off once Gay Dave realised everyone was waiting for him to do his boots up. To say there was an air of lethargy before the game, came home to roost during it.

Titans came at us from the start and never let up. I thought to myself that if Titans score, that would be the kick up the backside we need but I was wrong. We didn't adapt to the conditions well and were lucky to concede only one by half time, even though Gay Dave had decided to dedicate his performance to Australia by going 'Walkabout' all game!!

Second half showed no signs of change and the Titans scored two more. Barney managed to squeeze a goal in somewhere in the second half but the Titans thoroughly deserved their win by playing some very good football indeed. I was hoping that someone else had written this report so I could read a glowing report of my display in the nets (probably the best game in goal I've had). But in the cold light of day the home team goalkeeper shouldn't be your best player and it doesn't mean much to have played so well and lost. Everyone who played worked hard and there was plenty of encouragement but to be honest, it was really 'just one of those days'...

'Ave it!
