St Margaret’s Pasture, Leicester
What a day we had in the suntrap that was St Margaret's Pasture, Leicester
yesterday. After taking in the delights of Leicester the night before
Leftfooters arrived pitch side in buoyant (if not a little fragile)
mood. The tournament was a mini-league of eight teams each playing each
other once. Playing on half a full size pitch looked like it was going
to be too much for some of us - what with the heat and hangovers but
canny use of rolling subs (take them off before they collapse) ensured
that we had sort-of-fresh legs the whole day.Starting off with a creditable
0-0 draw against one of the Leicester teams, Leftfooters shocked themselves
(and probably a few of the other teams) by beating Yorkshire Terriers
by a goal to nil, Chris Basiurski holding off his marker to cut in from
the right and wrong-foot the keeper. As was the theme for many of the
matches that took place yesterday, Leftfooters went on to draw 0-0 their
next four games including against two good Brighton sides, Dave B was
awesome in defence and scared the life out of the opposition with his
bursts forward. Leftfooters were agonisingly denied victory against
Brighton B when their keeper managed crawl back in time to paw away
the ball from off the line. The final game was against another Leicester
side and after creating a couple of decent opportunities the winning
goal came in the last minute with a wonderful attacking move that started
at the back, Richy feeding Chris B down the wing to cross, Chris S picked
up the ball and calmly shot to the keeper's right only for him to push
it away, and into the path of yours truly knock into an empty net.A
job well done. 7 games, 2 wins, 5 draws and not a single goal conceded
all day, Thierry is a star. The final standings saw Leftfooters finish
in 2nd place with 11 points and a goal difference of +2. Brighton B
won it with 11 points and a goal difference of +3.A big congratulations
to all the guys who took part, especially Dave N who graciously offered
to play for Bristol who were in need of players.Yorkshire Terriers
are up next in the league. They must be bricking it!
