North Vs South Footers
February 14th, 2009
1-1 : North win on penalties
North Perspective

As we all know history is written by the victors, so what follows can only be fact.

We lined up for what was the shortest warm up in history, as we were saving our energy for a 90 minute footballing masterclass.

We were led by the good Dr who's tactical genius can only be rivaled by Rafa himself, as the game kicked off it was obvious that not only were we the best looking team but by far in control of outcome of the match.

We struck early through Oli after some good work down the wing by Mark And Dave, this however brought the south in to life(like an old woman running for a bus) and they began to enjoy a spell of good possession, Craig was thrown on and attacked down the wing and despite my best efforts to hack him, down and I've seen the stud marks, he crossed for Joe to flick Brazilian like to Scott to nod in, they continued to press but we were defending with real skill and commitment.

At half time it was 1-1 and this was fair as both teams enjoyed good spells, before the match had started Anthony had shown pictures of his near death experience while skiing, he was bombarded by ice, well this was nothing to the onslaught that the north rained in on the south in the second half. With Nial and John's runs causing constant problems, but then it happened the south broke very quickly and Anthony passed for Zee to miss a sitter as it was cleared off the line, the south contingent behind the goal were jumping up and down shouting, this was miss understood to be them shouting saying the ball had crossed the line, actually they had just realized the benefits office closes early on a Saturday.

This alleged injustice brought out an instant responce and they threw on a 12th man to try and win the game, with myself and Dr Hayes guarding the midfield like it was the gates of Helms Deep, and lets face it most of the south look like orks, and with Gary in goal who's judgment was beyond pin point , they were never going to score, and that's how it finished, and so to penalties.

As we stepped up to take the first penalty the sun began to really break through, as if God was saying , I'm going to smite Thea's south Londoners, And as we had his Representative on earth in goal for us in Gary, our Lord And Savior, who went on to produce two world class saves and Oli all most breaking the cross bar on route to goal , after 2 misses by the south and one from us, it was left for me to take the potentially winning kick, as a Liverpool fan it was never in doubt because we don't lose shootouts, and as I realed a round after placing home the winner to condemn the south to yet more misery it was once again confirmed that the North will always rain supreme.

Some other things to clear up first of all if Anthony shows you a picture it really is 2 ice cubes and a tooth pick as opposed to scene from touching the void and weather the ball crossed the line or not it was great day had by all, what more do you want on a Saturday a great game of football, some controversy and a shootout.

Also instead of warm ups from now on can we have a good 20 minute slating of the opposition as it seems to work, well done the North and big thanks to all involved in making this North triumph happen.

Have a great week.
